Never noticed this before, is this indicative of a bad install at all?
Also, screen saver does not seem to trigger, never happened before either?
Thanks in advance…
Hi @smartnoise, I assume you mean seeing the grub screen wasn’t expected? My first thought is selecting encryption of the whole disk or home directory changes how things get partitioned so may affect how grub configures.
Exactly. I used the “something else” partition method, with boot, root, swap & home but have done this on several machines never seen grub on others…
I have had this happen a sometime ago, I'm not 100% sure of all causes of this but what I have found that fixes it for me is to do another install.
If, like you said, you did "Something Else" you should have no problem here.
My partition setup is
/boot
/root
/home
/swap
/var
2 separate hard drives, and if I remember correctly it usually happens after a new install and I don't format my /boot
it sounds like you just installed it so if you do "Something Else" again but format your
/boot
/root
and "use" your other partitions /home just don't format them you will not loose any of your data
(Just my assumption)
Seeing Win 7 loader in grub but this is not a dual boot machine?
if you boot into a Live session from your USB you should be able to fix it without a reinstall
it has been a long time since I used this but if I remember right this is what your looking for to fix your grub
if it is what your looking for you can install it on your live session
I think I remember it has a few extra options such as reinstall and timeout of grub
do a bit of research on grub boot fix and see if this will help out.
Good Luck
Noticed a .947 mb NTFS trace a the beginning of the drive, weird, never done that before, gparted, reinstalled, no grub…
Thanks all
