GTK2 used instead of GTK3

I’ve installed ubuntu mate 18.04 using minimal install option on my computer. Everything works superb so far, it’s just that the themes use gtk2 instead of gtk3, which I know for a fact, since I deleted a gtk-2.0 folder from one of the themes and it no longer appeared in the Customize menu.
I’ve read that Mate is now gtk3 by default, but I don’t really know why the theme customization menu only displays gtk2 themes, which is weird, since this command: “dpkg -l libgtk2.0-0 libgtk-3-0” shows both installed on the system.

I haven’t come across that myself, but my guess is that it’s only showing themes that include a GTK+ 2 component since most people still want a theme to include both. Technical differences mean that themes for GTK+ 2 and 3 are completely different, just they are usually written to look as similar as possible for the same theme.

Hi @tomiyou,

it may be that the themes/apps haven’t been ported to GTK3 yet and still need GTK2 support to work as intended?.
