Thank you! Thank you! I tried several other "cures" with no success. I should have been tipped off by the lack of choices for audio input and output. There had been two choices each in 21.04 and only one each for 21.10. The "dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d" to "dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d"method worked instantly for me after reboot.
Just tested the kernel in proposed (5.13.0-1016.18), this resolves the issue with sound and fkms.
Expect to see this kernel in stable in the coming days.

also i think that going back to 5.13.0-1009-raspi might have broken my system, since ive been unable to install anything or update since
