I just want to say thanks in advance for any help given, and apologize if this is stupid question.

Hey v3xx, thank you for your quick reply. I didn't get back to you yesterday because i tried this
Wow is all i can say, and don't try! After i got half way through the 3 commands Caja started opening up window after window after window. It was very odd and struck me as a possible security problem, so after some fiddling i deiced to do a clean install and it happened again with Caja opening up more windows than i could count! Luckily this was not my every day comp and i had an extra SSD because i have some important stuff on one of the other operating systems on that drive. I put that drive in a box for a day when i have more time.
LOL: long story sort , problem solved Cheers PS: I am using UMATE 16.04 on that machine and one other and it really is solid. I love it!
