HiDPI support in 18.04 for MATE?

I'm actually living on the cutting edge by trying MATE on Arch. It's definitely looking good... except for the glitchy indicator (and workspace) applet, but @vkareh is on the scene.

That said, some applications are technically incapable of scaling by themselves:

Having just got a 4K monitor - Wow! Text looks so much clearer! Unfortunately (as of 2018), some applications do not scale well so they appear really tiny.
