I can not get USB tethering to work so I can use my cell phone to use Firefox on my desktop computer.
On my android samsung phone, all of these are On.
Mobile hotspot
Bluetooth tethering
USB tethering
It used to work just fine.
What can I check?

This is from official Samsung so might be worth checking out
My guess is update might be the culprit (why I am hesitant to update/upgrade when I have an important project going on) since when things update sometimes there is an issue with compatibility with older hardware
Have you tried restarting your phone completely? We tend to forget that phones keep working non-stop until major upgrade happens but sometimes things can mess-up by something and they work correctly after a reboot
For example when I am off to my cabin in the middle of nowhere for summer work I loose connection when I move around the house since I'm on the edge of a village and only way I get my connection going again is eater a) wait and sometimes nothing happens or b) turn on airplane mod than turn it off to reset connection or c) restart phone if options above don't work as they sometimes don't
Last on the list of things that might be wrong is USB cable - sometimes they just stop working for one thing or another - I had the problem when my cable would charge the phone just fine but after a few years my phone wouldn't recognize that it's connected to my laptop as if it was only "charging" and not registering other stuff like file share/USB tethering etc - so if nothing else works ask around if you have a chance to try tethering with another phone just to roll out the USB issue (buying new one just to test is pricier of the options haha)
You mentioned you have the following on:
For USB tethering; you only need the last one on. You could try turning the remaining off.
This is what I see on my phone:
And this is what I see in the indicator applet network menu:
And that's the network (tethered) that I used to post this message!
I did a reset with all 3 things checked on.
It works again.
One of those mysteries. ![]()
