How to install the Desktop Mate in a system with Ubuntu 16.04 Unity

Hi all again here with a new problem. My son has bought a laptop with Ubuntu 16.04 pre-installed. My question is whether the following commands are correct to install the Desktop Mate:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: ubuntu-mate-dev / xenial-mate
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install mate-dock-applet

In this way you have an environment that knows how to handle.

Thank you.

I would not install the Ubuntu Mate packages on top of Ubuntu (unity). I would recommend doing a fresh install of ubuntu mate. You could run into problems if you install more than one desktop imo.

also you may want to look at this Upgrading Ubuntu 16.04 to Ubuntu-MATE 16.04 for desktop comparission

Thank you for responding, I read that query, but he does not know an installation. Furthermore, as I mentioned it comes with Ubuntu 16.06 pre-installed with everything you need, driver, codecs, additional programs, etc.

The laptop is:

That above is only true upto 16.04. From 16.10 onwards Ubuntu MATE knows how to handle recommended packages.
