I know the existence of the application named “Preferred Applications” in Control Center.
For most of the settings, this app do its work. For some definitions it works but not system wide. Example:
In Preferred applications, VLC plaier is ser as the chosen Video Player;
This works perfectly with Caja file manager;
Other applications like qBittorrent, invoking the default videoplayer from the inside of the application, another videoplayer is opened (in my case “Videos” - a gstreamer suite palyer)
I searched for another “default app” setting via dconf-editor but unsuccessfully.
How can i be sure that the unique default application is and will ever be VLC?
Can anyone suggest another method to set this parameter? Like via command line?
Thanks in advance
Select a given file of a given file-type. Right click it and choose “properties”, Go to the “open with” tab. Choose the particular program you want to open this type of file.
That’s it. From now on, whenever you double click this type of file, it will default open with the specified program. Even, i think, from inside something like Bittorrent.
thanks steve. Unfortunately not. Not always. Seems exist two separate lists of assignment. One is managed by the Preferred Applications app you find in Control Center and this is related to the filemanager mechanics, the other (still not clear - but i will dig in that) that take the power sometimes inside some applications just like qBittorrent. (on mint 17.1 same situation, the issue is not existent). I’ll report here on my discoveries. Tomorrow morning (00:20 GMT here) will follow the IvCHo suggestions.
Sorry to hear that T. I’ll also have a look at the issue with Bittorrent as I already have it installed and see if I can come up with some answers. Will report here if I find anything out.
