How to run Musescore 3?

Hey everyone,

for a long time I used to install the notation program called "Musescore" (www.musescore.org) and the older versions really ran perfectly.

When I used to be with Ubuntu MATE the 2nd time, it worked, too.

Then there was a new version, Musescore3, and first it was no problem to work with it, some month ago maybe something crashed, I tried to reinstall it more often and the same problem: installation etc. had been managed, then while running the program it first asked to re-open the last project or not. Then in both cases it had been shut down all the time.

I wonder why, 'cause it 1st started after updating and really had been running for some weeks, then it was like crashing all the time.

Musescore2 (and older versions) do work, but I got lots of projects I worked on with Version 3 and now I even can't open them.

Does someone have an idea what's happening, or where I'm maybe wrong?

Did someone have the same problems?

Would be nice to get some ideas to try on installing again etc., or maybe it has something to do with Musescore itself?

All the best to you, thx.

R.B.

Installed musescore3 on UM 20.04, all went well, musescore3 reports version 3.2.3, it runs.

INSTALLING: (run these commands from the terminal)
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mscore-ubuntu/mscore3-stable
sudo apt update
sudo apt install musescore3

1st, Thx for your post,

I now did these commands again, and the same problem shown at the terminal is:

"E: Das Depot »http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate-dev/trusty-mate/ubuntu xenial Release« enthält keine Release-Datei" -> in German

and it says, that there's no Release-Data, as well as this problem:

"error:33 http://ppa.launchpad.net/mscore-ubuntu/mscore3-stable/ubuntu xenial Release
404 Not Found [IP: 2001:67c:1560:8008::19 80]"

See https://launchpad.net/~mscore-ubuntu/+archive/ubuntu/mscore3-stable

commands will work for 18.04 and up. Xenial is 16.04

If you look at that ppa page the dists/ dir shows which releases musescore3 is available ...

ok, much thx for your help.

I now update the system completely, I didn't got in mind that I'm at 16.04. upps. It hopefully will work.

Hm, I don't understand that it first really ran without problems. Who knows

Best regards,

R.B.
