HP MFP M377dw - installation problems - help required

Hallo

I have a problem. It’s strange, at least to me.

I have two machines running Ubuntu-Mate 16.04.3 attached to the same network-switch in my home office. One of them can scan from my network M377dw printer-scanner, the other can’t see the multifunction device’s scanner.

So I tried installing the “hp-plugin” on the machine with the problem.

Output of the command "sudo hp-plugin name@name:~$ sudo hp-plugin [sudo] password for name: ERROR: ld.so: object 'libesets_pac.so' from /etc/ld.so.preload cannot be preloaded (cannot open shared object file): ignored.

Can anyone help decipher what’s wrong and advise me on how to proceed?

PS hplip can’t install the device.

HI alpinejohn,

did you set it up using a network cable first?. Even though an HP printer/scanner will allow you to do it via wireless, it is better to first set it up using a cable !.

Hallo wolfman

I don’t use wireless, except to sync those small hand-held things.

Both computers are connected to the same network-switch as the network printer itself. The network-switch connects to one of my router outlets.

I’m now progressing to compare the output of “apt list --installed” for both computers. I’ll post a summary of my analysis when I finish. :nerd:

Hello everyone

This is an update to show how the problem was finally solved.

  • I updated the machine to Ubuntu-Mate 18.04. Then I installed hplip and set up the printer/scanner with hplip.
  • I have not set up the printer via the “set up printer” dialogue.
  • Everything works as expected.
