HP Stream 11'' wifi broadcom 43142

Hi everyone,
I’ve my HP Stream 11’’. I’ve installed Ubuntu-MATE 15.10 on it. Everythings works great, except for the wifi (broadcom 43142, working with de default propietary driver): when I’m not next to de modem, the wifi loss potential or conection.
Any help?
Thank you very much.

Have you checked the Additional Drivers Tool in the Control Centre?.

Yes, i’m using the propietary driver provided there, but it works fine only when i’m next to de modem…
Thanks

Are you next to any devices that possibly might cause signal interference/lose like microwave ovens or something similar?.

Not at all…when i’m next to the modem, the potential of the caught signal is at 70%, 80% max

Can I ask what the above means please?.

Sorry, with modem i meaned the router…

Hi @blzr,

take a look at the following example and check whether you are using “N, G or B” settings in your router, they all vary slighty and that might be the reason for the drop-out?:

Your antenna is broken or disconnected. If you have other wireless devices that work OK then
it is the antenna and/or connections in the HP Stream.

Some typical signal levels:

(My router, 20 feet away)
WB4KDI-APD24 xx:5E 86% 6 WPA2
(Neighbors, out the window and across the street, 100s of feet away)
ATTU2U4x5S xx:50 66% 11 WPA1 WPA2
2WIRE579 xx:21 57% 5 WPA1 WPA2
MyCharterWiFied-2G xx:ED 46% 9 WPA2
MyCharterWiFib3-2G xx:B3 46% 10 WPA2
ATTb4X7fUI xx:40 46% 6 WPA1 WPA2
2WIRE765 xx:49 43% 6 WPA1 WPA2

Thank you. It’s strange, but I think it’s not the antenna or connections in the HP Stream: when I use it with Windows, the wifi works really better. It can be something about the linux driver?

Can you get the signal level while running Windows?

Yes…With Windows it works really good, without disconnections and with very much potential.

Hi everyone,
I tried with lots of distros and it worked like I described before.
Only with Mageia 5 the wifi works really fine -like it did in Windows- with the propietary drivers packaged there for broadcom.
Don’t idea why, but if it’s useful for any owner of these HP Streams with broadcom…That’s the only solution I found for the wifi signal issue.

Hi,

try running the following terminal command (Ctrl + Alt + t):

# (sudo rmmod b43 ; sudo rmmod bcma ; sudo rmmod wl ; sudo modprobe wl ; sudo modprobe lib80211_crypt_tkip)

I took it from here:
