Hud with L Alt not working as it should

Hud is working fine. Activate it with left Alt.
But I need to do alt+tab twice to start switching windows.
Also alt+F4 twice to close window.

If I change hot-key alt+tab / f4 works fine.

I think the hud needs to activate on Alt release. But I can’t find a way to do this.

In Ubuntu Unity this works fine.

This is on Debian 12

Hm.. I just realized that alt+tab from Flatpak Waterfox is ok. Seems to be the Mate apps that has this problem.

I also have the experience where on Ubuntu Unity the HUD works as intended. On Ubuntu MATE enabling the HUD would have some strange effects. Never tested the Alt-Tab thing but the Ubuntu MATE HUD would not work with any Qt programs (which mostly have menu bars in 24.04), but in Ubuntu Unity it does work.

On Ubuntu MATE, I often changed the default keybindings to Meta+something which is my preference, so out of circumstance, I never ran into this issue.

If no one is able to help you find a solution, maybe this workaround will help.

Thanks for reaching out. Yeah, changing the hotkey is possible, but I’m used to Alt..
However a restart helped so far. I must try and see..
