I broke my notifications — how to revert them back to default?

Dear all,

I believe I messed up my system by installing packages from GNOME and XFCE alongside MATE.

Now, my notifications look ugly.

How can I revert them back to default?

This brought me into the right direction.

I had to uninstall xfce4-notifyd and make sure that mate-notification-daemon was starting.
