I need help selecting a all in one printer for linux

I would like to purchase an all in one printer for ubuntu. The Purchase price needs to be under $150.
The printer needs to work “out of the box” and perform as well in linux as windows without the need for any additional drivers. Turboprint would be one answer to my problem, but i do not want to buy it. Once i have a working printer in linux, balmer and gates can kiss my tail section!

I believe most HP printers work pretty well under linux. We have brother printers at my work that I use also with no problem.

I second the motion here. I have used HP printers for about 15 years and they have generally worked well with both WIN and Linux. They are probably the most compatible Linux printers around. I currently am using the HP ENVY 4500 All-in-One. You can order it here:

You might find this discussion in /r/ubuntu on Reddit useful. Someone asked a similar question there, about printer companies with good driver support for Ubuntu.

Thank you for the information and the link. I think i will give this one a try.

Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your help.Looks like hp is the way to go.

I have been using HP printers which work really well with Linux but I bought a new ink cartridge today and I am thinking about switching to Epson as the ink is waaaaaay cheaper than that of HP!.

Epson model XP-235 has Linux drivers which is what I would buy as I don’t need anything too fancy:

I’ve been using an HP Officejet 4620 for a year and a half as a wireless network printer with no issues, I configured the router to assign it a static IP so it’s always there, even after a power failure. I’ve never had any issue with HP printers on Linux though I’ve had to install the latest HPLIP a couple of times when the printers were too new for the standard Linux installed version

Oh, sorry I didn’t see the part about being under $150, I’ve never gotten a new all in one that was worth a damn that cheap. I don’t remember what my HP Officejet 4620 cost but it was over $200

I hope this never happens to any one else.

Epson printers used to enjoy a good reputation in my book - no longer.
The story begins around four and a half years ago…
MacBook Pro running OS X Snow Leopard (family member’s machine). Epson printer. Change print cartridges… actually it worked well enough for the first few replacements. After that it became a 30 minute battle to get the printer to recognise the fact that it’s belly was once agein full of Epson print cartridges. And the last time we had to change a cartridge it just stopped responding and stayed locked up in its loop-procedure, trying to detect the cartridges - and failing. I ran away… and bought an OKI C310dn.
