Ubuntu MATE GOLD edition
Kind of bland. I think it needs more gold.
Really, do we really Need the worlds most bloated Linux O/S? To me, it’s easier & faster to ADD those programs you need rather than remove those you don’t. And I sure as heck don’t want Compiz to be installed, and every CPU hogging special effect enabled upon installation.
Not a bad idea, but I would think having to maintain 2 of the same distros might be a burden for the team. Plus, some users won’t be able to experience it if they cannot run Compiz on their machines.
Maybe writing and sharing a shell script that “goldifies” the Ubuntu MATE experience might be a good way to achieve this?
As I said on G+, this looks wonderful and I’d totally support a community spin built around this idea.
Now, some of the more subtle elements I am hoping to bring to 16.04 as am option. I’ll publish on the Ubuntu MATE socials when plans are in place.
The only thing is that pinguy-builder, a fork of remastersys, is dependent on xresprobe and it isn’t in the 15.10 repositories anymore. You will need to download it here or just add my ppa ppa:wizd3m/mate-mini.
I haven’t found an alternative for this script yet.
