I was curious about power consumption on my ThinkPad T530 running Linux Mint MATE, I used sudo powerstat -R with everything closed and got around 4 Watts at idle.
Anno 1404 (lowest graphic settings): CPU: 60.44 Watts on average with standard deviation 6.85
Idle: CPU: 3.98 Watts on average with standard deviation 0.27
Also, in that context i discovered i need a new battery, the old one is basically dead.
I'm running an ASUS Zephyrus G15 so it has a fair bit of grunt and the RTX 2060 consumes a few watts even when its doing nothing. I see around 8-9W at idle.
I've tried a few things over the years to get that down but idle usage isn't really my main concern.
When I'm watching a stream, browsing, and editing or running code I'm usually close to 18W. Modern games won't really run on battery as the NVIDIA card will limit its clock to avoid excessive draw.
I have 7 Watts running only Firefox, but i did switch a ton of stuff off in the BIOS and also disabled the build in NVIDIA GPU. Like Firewire, Camera, Microphone, internal Bluetooth, Expresscard, all disabled.
I also want to replace the Thermal Paste ASAP. I bought a Polartherm X-10 for the Job, hope it´s long lasting with a Intel i7-3630QM. Luckily, i have double copper Heatpipes, for the GPU along i assume but since that´s disabled, my CPU can have room to breath. But since my Machine is likely 14 Years old it´s time to replace it.
Also sat down to make the whole experience more welcoming - Windows 2000 Startup Sound is greeting me now. Old school but, i think it´s way better then anything we have these days or, just nothing.
Just for a look inside as i replaced the build in WWAN Modul H5321gw with a 120 GB Kingston mSATA. Could be there is even a third Heatpipe sitting where i think is the switched off GPU. Once i replace the Thermal Paste i remove the whole cover and try to get a better look.
