I was booting Ubuntu mate 20.04 live and this message comes up: initramfs unpacking failed and then a string of numbers, the numbers are never the same but when the disk checks itself for errors, none are found and the live session seems to boot normally. I have used two different USBs and downloaded Ubuntu twice, and continue receiving the same error. Is it a glitch if not...what is the problem?
Hello Katherine,
Is your laptop model processor a bit old, like a Celeron i686?
No, laptop's from 2015, an HP Flyer Red but until now and through linux, I only used it for writing and never connected it to the internet so no pesky windows updates
Personally I wouldn't worry about this error if later you see that Ubuntu boots normally in live session.
Possibly when you install (if you decide) this error non appears, but do a backup before something could go wrong.
Other hand could be your processor it's not fully compatible with Ubuntu system, but is rare.
Cheers
