Install Gnome Tweak Tool

Helllo everyone, I was wondering if I can install the Gnome Tweak tool for my desktop Ubuntu Mate.16.04, I wanted to use the global theme feature without having to install a theme.

Ok so I think I answered my own question but I was able to launch the Gnome Tweak Tool by running the following command from the terminal (Ctrl + Alt + t):

gnome-tweak-tool

By I’m still unable to add it to my docky I’ve searched for the software program using the menu search box but I was not able to find it so I can add it to the docky

And when I add the Global dark theme I don’t see the change
Thanks so much

I think I figured it out SOLVED :thumbsup:

@Robgoss

Maybe you could post the solution for others wanting to use gnome tweak :slight_smile:

I did not post any results because I could not get gnome-tweak-tool to work in Mate it seems to be installed but when I try adding the global dark theme in does not seem to work. I decided to just use the Appearance Preferences and add the dark theme. I cannot even get gnome-tweak-tool to appear so I can add it to my docky. it is installed but I can only launch it by using the terminal

Hi @Robgoss,

did you do a restart after installing it?, if you didn’t it may well cause it to misbehave!. I just installed it and it is running fine after a restart!.

Run the following terminal command (Ctrl + Alt + t) and then restart:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get remove gnome-tweak-tool && sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool

Let us know how you get on please!. :smiley:

Ok as suggested I ran the following command: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get remove gnome-tweak-tool && sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool but I’ve searched the Mate menu and cannot locate the gnome-tweak-tool I can only launch it from the command line, any idea’s

Let me make sure I’m clear there are two different Tweak tools correct?

Gnome-tweak-tool and Mate tweaks

I can only see Mate tweak tool

And I did reboot my machine

Thanks so much

Hi Rob,

it is installed under the name “Users & Groups” and that is most likely why you cannot find it!. :smiley:

Humm is there anyway to add it to my docky for easy access. Thanks Wolfman

First I heard of the Gnome Tweak Tool. I am still using the old Ubuntu Tweak, primarily for the Janitor function. Does Gnome tweak interface well with UM16.04LTS? Does it have a Janitor/Cleaner capability?

Hi @jaybo,

see here for a run-down on the app, it does not have a cleaning tool, you can use “Bleachbit” for that!:

I also use Bleachbit and it works very well

So I used BleachBit today, not the root version, and my system would not reboot. Fortunately I make frequent backups. Ubuntu Tweak Janitor never left me in an unbootable state.

I use Bleachbit all the time I don’t see how it would prevent your system from booting

I did select a few extra options. I did not run the root version. When I rebooted, many errors flashed in text and I was left in the terminal mode. The system did not go in to a graphic environment.
