Install newer version of UM from a 2nd hard drive

Can I install a newer version of Ubuntu_Mate from a second hard drive?

I do not want to install from a pendrive or a DVD.

Yes, as I wrote on your askubuntu question an hour ago. You can use any media your machine firmware will boot from, OR even modify the existing bootloader to boot/chainload to too (as I did with an old thinkpad I still wanted to use for QA after it's USB ports ceased working).
