Installing Apps on Raspberry Pi

Hi,
I am doing a project (using Ubuntu Mate On the Raspberry Pi) and I am trying to get apps onto the Raspberry Pi. I need them to work on programs like Libre Office. When I install them, I find the apps won’t open or work, even through Terminal. The apps I’m having a problem with are:
Julius - (Which I believe to be only in Japanese - and needs another program such as Simon to enable it to work) but when I try to install it, I’m never successful.
Verbose - Like Julius, I believe it needs another program (like Simon), but when I try installing it, it’s again unsuccessful.
Voice Recorder - If it does install, it doesn’t like to open.
RecordPad - If it does install, it doesn’t like to open.
Orca - Installed but does not open.
Vinux Project - Tried installing and getting it to work but it will not even open in Terminal.
Colour Blindness - Tried http://colororacle.org/ and it does not seem to work.

Please could you give me some suggestions?

Many thanks,

Ashleigh Nicholls

What are these coded in?
I suspect you’ll need special versions, unless you can get them as Python or similar
