Im on Ubuntu MATE 20.04, and i intend to install Windows 10 after it. I aware that the installation of Windows will bring problems to my Linux install, but i read on the internet that i can correct this with a Live enviroment and a chroot. So, i wonder what is the initialization manager in 20.04... it is GRUB yet? Tutorial on internet about this operations usually tells us to reconfigure the GRUB.
I have an 550mb EFI partition + 170GB partition for Ubuntu MATE + 80GB for Windows.
Any tip is welcomed, since it's my first try of a dual boot.
I think i just did it. The Windows seems to no have destroyed my Linux setup so far. I just had to go in BIOS mode, and put my linux partition to do a boot override so i could boot on it. After that i just changed configurations so the GRUB screen could last a few seconds (so i could have some time to choose my OS), then i used the grub reinstall and the grub update commands. I expect this to be enought.
To be fair, under an EFI system and Windows 10, it's not too bad any more.
In theory, each EFI compatible operating system will add an entry to the EFI partition, and then the motherboard's BIOS/setup screen can be used to specify which one should boot first.
Some distributions may even do away with GRUB entirely since the Linux kernel has its own EFI loader called EFISTUB.
