Looking at install of ubuntu mate 18 there is an option to Install third-party software.
I have a new Dell laptop, will this option download required software to make my Dell run at optimum?
Should I do it, or, naw, foget about it?

Hi @mawil1013. It's really your choice but many new to Linux needs some help. For reference, here's exactly what you refer (the last option):
That "third-party software" option places a line between proprietary software and "free" (as in freedom) software. Things like Adobe Flash, mp3 format support, Broadcom Wifi drivers and nVidia graphics drivers has conditions and licensing not favored by many people. This is what they refer.
But nothing is installed here that cannot be installed later.
Frankly, I like the discussion because I hope for the day when everyone would gasp at the thought of running software they cannot inspect. I'm very much of the opinion "If you don't control the software, the software controls you." -Richard Stallman
