Is there any specific Wayland discussion?

I know that Wayland is in the future roadmap (http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/roadmap#future_releases) but is there any specific discussion on this matter? Now, MATE 1.18 is gtk3 exclusively and it has libinput support, so I think it’s about time to start taking Wayland into consideration.

I’ve seen that lxqt team has made a todo list for wayland compatibility (https://github.com/lxde/lxqt/wiki/TODO-for-Wayland). Is there anything similar for MATE?

Any thoughts on what wayland compositor will be used? Is there any plans

  • to transform marco into a wayland compositor
  • or maybe create a new wayland compositor from scratch
  • or maybe use an already existing compositor (kwin, weston,…)
  • or maybe something based on libweston

Is there any discussion for this?

P.S. I’m not a developer (yet) and I cannot help, but I believe it’s really useful for such a discussion to exist. We (wannabe developers) always find discussions like these really educational. Maybe a discussion on some forum or on github or even maybe a specific “mate-wayland” irc channel would be nice. If something similar already exists, please provide links.

At this time, not a lot out there :frowning:

Maybe someone can contact the developers and ask them to begin a discussion or add some more info on how they are thinking to move towards wayland transition? I know that the devs are really busy (I keep an eye on github and on mate-dev irc channel) so I don’t want to disturb them. Maybe it’s easier for you to ask them for some more info.

No, I have no special connections.
