Just installed Mate 15.04, headphone jack not registering headphones?

Hello, I’m very new. I just installed MATE 15.04 on my Acer Aspire 5750 and I’ve realized that when I plug in the headphones, it doesn’t register that they’re there and just plays through the speakers. I’ve been looking through other sites and questions people have already asked, but I haven’t found any specifically pertaining to these specs. I was running Windows 7 before and didn’t have an issue with headphones there, but now they don’t work.

I will keep looking but does anyone have any ideas of what my problem might be and how to fix it?

I should also report the following:

My headphones work. But, only if I start the machine without them plugged in. Then, when I plug them in, they work. However, if I start the machine with the headphones already plugged in, they do not work until I unplug them and then plug them back in.

This is only true for 15.04. 14.04 did not suffer from this issue. Not a big issue at all, by the way. But, I thought I should mention it here.

This is on UM 15.04 64 bit.
