Hi! New to this community.
I know nothing about Ubuntu/Linux, but managed to get Ubuntu 20.04 up and running on my Eee-pc However, I now want to install Ubuntu MATE 24.04.3 LTS on the Eee-pc instead. I was advised to use that OS because of the limited ressources on the pc, and because the software I need to use on the Eee-pc is not supported on the 20.04. So I downloaded the iso for Ubuntu MATE 24.04.3 LTS from https://ubuntu-mate.org/. I made a bootable SD-card using rufus-4.9 which worked for 20.04.
The pc can boot from the SD-card, but keeps on booting (it loops). There is a brief message about “Grub…”, but it quickly disappears, and then it boots again, only to show that message again.
Any suggestions on what to do?
the eee-pc is an ASUS 1001PXD, Intel Atom CPU N455 1.66Ghz with 2 Gb RAM.
From what I can find, your system only supports legacy BIOS so you need to make sure your SD card is bootable in BIOS mode and not UEFI, although that really doesn’t explain why it worked for early versions of ubuntu.
Can you try with a usb stick? you have the iso, burn it with rufus to a usb stick and boot. I think F2 allows you to select device. My thought is that the sd-card is rather slow and it timeouts.
