I would like to understand the keyboard layout indicators on my MATE start panel.
On the right hand side I see 2 icons:
(a) an icon “GE”, which I can switch to “RU” while I am typing in a pluma window, however, nothing changes, in particular, I cannot type cyrillic characters as I would expect.
(b) an icon like the traffic sign “forbidden entry”.
The 1st left-click while I am typing brings up cyrillic characters: вот русские буквы.
The 2nd left-click switches to a Spanish keyboard layout (ñ,ç, z and y keys changed)
The 3rd left-click switches to German keyboard layout (z and y as shown on the keys)
The indicator (a) does not change while I am plazing with (b); it keeps on showing “GE”.
What happens here?
In former Ubuntu versions I had an indicator like the “GE” and I could click it to switch to the next keyboard layout.
