It sounds like that would be related to power profiles, but I don't see anything that I recognize when I look for power in the search bar for dconf-editor.

@Gloster10
Could you please do:

  1. List USB devices before the test

Run this command to see the connected USB devices:

lsusb

For more details:

lsusb -t

  1. Check USB port status before the test
dmesg | grep -i usb

cat /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb*/power/runtime_status
  1. Unplug the power supply and observe the changes

After unplugging the power, rerun the previous commands to check for differences:

lsusb

dmesg | tail -n 20

cat /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb*/power/runtime_status
  1. Monitor system logs in real-time

Open a terminal and run:

sudo journalctl -kf

Then unplug the power supply and watch for any errors or unusual messages in the logs.

These commands will help provide clear evidence of the issue for the technician.

I get LAN via an USB device.

After power cable removed and connected again, to get again e.g.: LAN (via USB) connection it is not possible by log out/in, USB cable disconnect, connect again.
Only the following script does help to get again the USB devices (without reboot):

#!/bin/sh
for port in $(lspci | grep USB | cut -d' ' -f1); do
    echo -n "0000:${port}"| sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/unbind;
    sleep 5;
    echo -n "0000:${port}" | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/bind;
    sleep 5;
done

If further information will be needed, please tell me.
Thank you for support.

sudo journalctl -kf

I did :

for line in /sys/bus/usb/devices/*/power/control
do
         echo 'on' | sudo tee "$line"
done

and got the same result, USB will be switched off.
(echo 'auto' same result, echo 'off' not a defined parameter)

Got it! It looks like you're dealing with a couple of issues here:

  1. AppArmor Denials:

    • Your logs show multiple apparmor="DENIED" messages related to snap.thunderbird.thunderbird.
    • This means Thunderbird (installed via Snap) is being blocked from receiving certain DBus signals related to power management (freedesktop.login1).
    • Possible fix:
      sudo aa-logprof

      This will guide you through updating AppArmor rules. Alternatively, try installing Thunderbird outside Snap.
  2. USB and xHCI Controller Issues:

    • xhci_hcd 0000:03:00.3: xHCI host controller not responding, assume dead
    • usb X-X: USB disconnect, device number Y
    • Tx timeout and Get ether addr fail (Realtek network adapter issue)

    This suggests power or hardware instability. Since this happens when you plug/unplug power, possible causes:

    • Power-saving features interfering with USB (try disabling USB autosuspend).
      echo -1 | sudo tee /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend

    • Faulty or loose USB connections
    • Power instability on your laptop
  3. SCSI & Disk Sync Failures:

    • Synchronize Cache(10) failed: Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR driverbyte=DRIVER_OK
    • Could indicate issues with an external or internal drive. If it’s an external drive, check its connection and try a different port/cable.
  4. ACPI Workqueue Issue:

    • workqueue: acpi_os_execute_deferred hogged CPU for >10000us 8 times
    • Usually related to buggy ACPI firmware. If this happens often, consider checking for BIOS/firmware updates.

Are you noticing performance issues or device disconnects while using your laptop?

Your lsusb -t and dmesg | grep -i usb outputs show the structure and initialization of your USB devices on your system. Here’s an interpretation:

USB Bus and Device Structure (lsusb -t):

  • Your system has four USB buses:
    • Bus 001 & 003: USB 2.0 (480M)
    • Bus 002 & 004: USB 3.1 (5Gbps and 10Gbps)
  • You have multiple USB hubs (expanders) connected to different ports.
  • Devices detected include:
    • Mass storage devices (Western Digital and LiteOn external drives).
    • A USB-to-Ethernet adapter (Realtek, r8152 driver).
    • A Bluetooth adapter (btusb driver).
    • A webcam (uvcvideo driver).
    • A Realtek USB card reader (rtsx_usb driver).

USB Initialization (dmesg output):

  • The USB root hubs are initialized at boot.
  • The system registers new USB buses and detects connected hubs.
  • Several devices are detected and assigned a bus and device number.
  • Some specific devices include:
    • USB hubs from GenesysLogic and Realtek
    • Western Digital external drives (Elements 25A3, My Book 25EE)
    • A Realtek USB network adapter (USB 10/100/1000 LAN with driver r8152)
    • A webcam (Quanta USB2.0 VGA UVC WebCam)
    • A Bluetooth adapter (Realtek Bluetooth Radio)

If you're troubleshooting USB connectivity issues, you might want to:

  1. Check lsusb for detailed device IDs.
  2. Use dmesg -w while plugging in a device to monitor real-time logs.
  3. Ensure necessary drivers are installed (e.g., r8152 for Ethernet, uvcvideo for webcam).

Again thank you for response :
Thunderbird replaced by "atp" version (Install Thunderbird on Linux | Thunderbird Help)
DKMS driver for r8152 installed via GitHub - awesometic/realtek-r8152-dkms: A DKMS package for easy use of Realtek r8152 driver, which supports Realtek USB NICs including RTL8156 (2.5 GbE) and RTL8157 (5 GbE)

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:awesometic/ppa
sudo apt install realtek-r8152-dkms

Bios update done via Win11 and an Asus firmware install application.

Check again power cable Off, but removed all my connected USB devices (LAN, external HDDs) before test.
All USBs will be turned off (checked with an USB stick).
Still turned off with the former used script :

#!/bin/sh
for port in $(lspci | grep USB | cut -d' ' -f1); do
    echo -n "0000:${port}"| sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/unbind;
    sleep 5;
    echo -n "0000:${port}" | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/bind;
    sleep 5;
done

Get the USB ports only after power cable connected again and start the script above.

Not sure to understand, what is the situation about your issue now?

I'm a hardware guy more than software, so my first thought would be the battery. How old is your battery?

You can use the upower command to monitor your battery so try the following.

upower -d

Try this plugged and unplugged. Check the enery-full and the energy-full-design. If the energy-full it's 15% or less than -design, I would replace the battery.

You can also try

upower --monitor

And watch it as you plug and unplug your PS. Maybe something will jump out at you.

USB behavior same as before.
Use WLAN to have access to internet during my reply, power supply still unplugged.

Your battery seems fine so that means you are looking at a driver issue, which is very rare, so we need to go back to an earlier suggestion and take a look at all your Snap and/or Flatpak apps.

I did reboot, does not start firefox or any other snap and unplugged power supply, USB disconnected by system.
.
flatpak not installed

Did reboot to Win 11, unplugged powers supply, USB still working. Therefore, any Uefi-Bios settings can be excluded as cause of the issue.

I would still be willing to bet there is application causing the problem and I would start with any application installed with Snap first. If not, I would make sure all the other applications are updated. One of the USB error messages you posted earlier, "usb 2-2: USB disconnect, device number 3" indicates a USB device has disconnected, potentially due to a faulty cable, power issue, or driver problem.

We have eliminated power and cable issues, so the only one left is drivers. But applications, especially SNAP, are known to cause USB problems as well.

I must confess, it is possible to remove snapd completely. But also I must confess I would only do it, if someone of Mate SW developers like to see the result.
If not, I can live with this issue.

You don't have to remove SNAP, just any apps/programs installed with SNAP. Sorry if I was not clear about it.

O.K., tomorrow you will get the result.
Currently I have a libx265 conversion running, I have to wait to complete.

Now all additional snaps removed.
