OMG Ubuntu! reports that the

  • linux-firmware package

is being split up into 17 distinct but smaller vendor-specific files to reduce the overhead associated with the current linux-firmware package.

It's a good move. :+1:

I remember Arch Linux doing this back in June 2025. Although, it needed intervention as NVIDIA (upstream) moved some files around the same time, confusing the package manager.

I'm sure it'll go smoothly for Ubuntu through the quality assurance (QA) process.
