Linux on Mobile Phone

Hello,

   I should like trying

Hello,

I am new on this forum. I am assessing the Linux Mint 18.2 Mate under Virtual-box.

Does someone have try Linux on a **Mobile Phone**? I should like trying. That should be fine.:relaxed:

Leloup

You might want to look into SailFish OS. There are a few supported phones and many unofficial ports. I will be trying soon after getting a spare phone to play with.

Hi,

I guess on your mobile phone is running Linux. Android, the widely used mobile operating system, is based on the Linux kernel. But in my opinion Linux software is connected with open source and data privacy. Especially the second one is a foreign word for Google.

At least there are some alternatives:

A mobile operating system based on Ubuntu, firstly developed by canonical before it was dropped by canonical. Now UBports continues as a community project. Available for about four mobile phones.

A mobile phone from purism which will come out early 2019. Comes probably with various operating system (Pure OS, Ubuntu Touch, KDE Plasma mobile). Not cheap!

Android without Google. List of supported devices: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/

very fresh project for a new mobile operating system based on lineage os.

That’s it although this has as good as nothing to do with Ubuntu MATE (category).
I am concerned that they should team up together to develop one great alternative instead of many little ones, maybe based on Ubuntu Touch?

Regards

Mickey

PS: Install Ubuntu MATE besides Windoof or better: instead of Windows

I have flash/burned a copy of Ubuntu Touch on both my new Pinephone and an old Nexus 4 phone. Both work great. The next step would be modify the Ubuntu Touch and change part of the code to Ubuntu Mate. Possible?

I use https://github.com/dreemurrs-embedded/Jumpdrive/releases/tag/0.6-alpha to access the phone and Etcher to flash/burn a copy of the distro to the phone's eMMC. if you search the internet, there are several Linux distro's testing mobile devices.

The goal is to flash a copy of Ubuntu Mate I'v been working with to see if I can get the phone to work.

It is not the same for an operating system for a PC as for a mobile phone , Debian is working hard to adapt it to Pinephone, you open apps and they are not adapted to the size of the mobile correctly,

Ubuntu Mate on a mobile would be great but it is very difficult

Ubuntu touch has 10 phones that work well with the operating system and many more are being ported to Ubuntu touch,
