I am new to Linux and Ubuntu mate. Got a few hangs with Altril and after removing it managed to work fine for a week but then started getting freezes again. Sometimes I managed a force quit but mostly had to hard switch the laptop.
I could not see any consistent reason although Firefox was usually open so removed Mate and loaded Zorin.
Six days with no problems using same software (as far as I know) so I shall stick with Zorin for now.
I would have liked to help debug the many freezes using Mate but couldn’t find any logs. If I can I would like to try Mate again when I get time, how can I help? Where are logs of hangs and freezes, if any?
