LVM is slow; so I want to remove it

I've discovered that having setup my SSD as an LVM, I've greatly slowed down that drive. It's 250 GB, and it's my system disk. I have a 3 GB hard drive too. I'm thinking I will create an ISO of my system disk (I'm not sure how yet.) I will save it on my 3GB Hard Drive. I will boot from a USB stick. Then I will reformat my system disk and reload the image with dd. Does this make sense? I can really notice how slow my ssd has become.

I hope that your other HD is actually a lot larger than 3 GiB, more like 3 Terrabytes. If you want to create an image of your installed system, you'll have to do it from something like a USB drive. I use Parted Magic -

It contains clonezilla which is a little bit obscure for the first timer but a great tool for creating backup images of your system. My initial advice would be to create a partition on your (hopefully larger than the SSD) HD that could hold the contents of your system. This partition creation will must also be done from outside the system, eg. using a USB drive. Parted Magic is good for that. If you don't want to spend the money for Parted Magic, a live USB can substitute.

You'll learn a lot in the process. Good luck @MikeyBee

LOL! Yup. It's 3TBs. Thanks for the heads up. I was going to try making the image booted from the SSD; so you've saved me some time. Cheers! @mdooley
