What are the tweaks that I can do? I already did something like changing it to Marco no compositor.
Depending on your video card/driver/xorg.conf, using the compositor might actually improve performance, as some of the rendering is offloaded to the GPU.
Other things to do: disable Alt+Tab thumbnails.
If you want to be hardcore, you can even disable desktop icons, as that uses a Caja process that continuously monitors your desktop.
Go into the Startup Applications and go through the list disabling stuff there. Beware, though, disabling some things there might make your system break.
