Mate 1.26.2 on laptop with retina display and external monitor

Although I am actually running Rocky Linux 9 with Mate 1.26.2 I am posting in this Mate community since it is very active.

I just added an external 1920 x 1080 monitor to my Dell Inspiron laptop with a 3860 x 2160 retina display. The laptop display remains the primary display. I have run into two problems:

  • The desktop background, in my case the default Mate background, is replicated multiple times on the external display. It seems to be a combination of 2x2 and 4x4 copies of the same one. Not sure why. Dragging windows onto the external display seems to work fine though.
  • After connecting the external display the mouse cursor is laggy and sometimes flickers on the primary display. Its laggy on the external display but does not flicker.

Are the two issues above known? Are there any workarounds?

Have you tried a different distro to see if that makes a difference? Most install iso's allow you to try without installing.
