Hi! I’m a new user of MATE 1.10 in my Raspberry 2. Browsing with Firefox, some URL use Silverlight for some videos.
I know that Pipelight could be a good alternative to it. But I spent a few hours to install in MATE. Usual procedures that I’ve found on the net didn’t work. I tried with several repositories, but every time a message appears in my Terminal saying that Pipelight package hasn’t found.
Sorry about my english.
THIS MAY BREAK YOUR SYSTEM, SEE THE WARNING FROM CARRIBA BELOW!.
Hi,
KEEP YOUR BROWSERS CLOSED!.
I have no idea as to whether this command will work or crash your system but here goes!:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:pipelight/stable && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install pipelight-multi
then:
sudo pipelight-plugin --enable silverlight
Start your browser (FireFox only I think?).
Hope it helps!.
@joseplopes Out of interest, what is it that you need pipelight for?
If I understand correctly, Pipelight is “a wrapper for using Windows plugins in Linux browsers and therefore giving […] the possibility to access services which are otherwise not available for Linux users”.
However, looking further into the Pipelight Forum, it’s not yet supported on ARM devices, to quote: “The only possibility to run these plugins on ARM devices is to emulate a x86 processor, but this is terrible slow and not suitable for video rendering”
Another thought people, check FireFox > Edit > Preferences > Applications and see if you can select VLC as "Default" which I find find plays better with FF but I haven't tried this with any Silverlight apps!:
Hi everybody. I tried to install using this repository. But something is wrong with this. Finally, it doesn’t find the package of pipelight.
I need it in order to see web pages with Silverlight plugin.
Well, it doesn’t matter. It’s not a big deal. Anyway, thanks a lot everybody!
Hello,
Got a similar problem like joseplopes. It seem’s like the Ubuntu mate distro isn’t supported from the ppa, that for we can’t install it. Is there a way to force install it? Bypass the distrocheck?
update
inspecting the repo link from /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ it looks like there are just wine pipelight, netflix lovefilm redbox packages, but no pipelight-multi package
