We’ve updated our PPA containing MATE 1.16.2 that is designed to work with Ubuntu MATE 16.04.2.

Upgrade to MATE Desktop 1.16.2

To upgrade Ubuntu MATE 16.04 to MATE Desktop 1.16.x do the following: Open a terminal using CTRL + ALT + t.

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-mate-dev/xenial-mate
sudo apt update
sudo apt full-upgrade

Now restart your computer and you’re running MATE Desktop 1.16.2 :slight_smile: See the original announcement about MATE Desktop 1.16 on Ubuntu MATE 16.04 for additional background.

Hi!

Why Ubuntu 16.04 LTS is not receiving more full upgrades for MATE Desktop in the ppa:ubuntu-mate-dev/xenial-mate? i.e. MATE 1.18

Thanks for the effort!

MATE 1.18 is now GTK3 only (as is Ubuntu MATE 16.10 onwards), whereas 16.04 is primarily GTK2.
