Mate desktop and sharing

THE WHOLE POINT OF USING UBUNTU MATE IS THE GNOME DESKTOP

and NOT CHANGING anything on the familiar desktop we know and love

so what do you do you put thees horrible scroll bars with no stepper

buttons that are way to fast or way to slow and when the scroll bar pops out it covers the buttons on the edge of the screen making near impossible to click them without scroll bar popping out and covering them

put back the old scroll bars with stepper buttons

THEN DO NOT CHANGE DESKTOP EVER

you want to change something fix folder sharing that has not worked right since 16.04

if there is a win 3.1 to win 11-12 OR a mac of any version and linux from start to current version with a shared folder I want to see all of them and access all of the shares and all of them to see my shared folder and be able to access my share with one restriction “no execute”

otherwise full Read write for all on my network

IN 16.04 I would put the share in smb.conf and that was it

it worked now after following instructions on sharing and

it sees only AFP devices and nothing else and nobody of any os can see

my share

after doing a ton of work in terminal as per instructions

over complication killed sharing

I left MS os at vista there ham handed attempt at using the linux

kernel and trying hide that fact from the user and everybody else

I found out by right clicking “my documents” on desktop and going to

properties I traced that short cut back to /home/jbl/documents

and the desktop was also bad news

windows does not have a home directory its within the linux kernel

the last windows desktop that I consider as useful was xp sp3

so if im going to use linux kernel IN WINDOWS ill use linux I went to ubuntu 16.04 with gnome desktop and I loved it

unfortunately everything after that was running down hill

I am using sneaker net in current version of ubuntu

because folder sharing DONT WORK LIKE IT DID IN 16.04

If you want to use gnome desktop, use ubuntu distro.

Ubuntu MATE as the name reads, is a distro using MATE desktop.

Everything about Linux is Choice

Declarations like DO NOT CHANGE EVER will not fly.

I took it he meant gnome 2 not gnome3.
That said I totally agree with Pablo'scomment. Everything moves on, Mate has to keep up with the changes or it would cease to function.
