Mate from an QT perspective

Fellas,

On a recent Destination Linux episode, Martin mentioned some interest about LXQT.

For curiousity purposes only, would a conversion of Mate from GTK to QT present the opportunity for a more
advantageous longer term project for everyone?

Thanks,
GM

Qt is now majorly being implemented by KDE; MATE is GTK+ based DE, and if it were to switch to LXQT then isn’t the distro just gonna be Lubuntu?

I’m sure some integration is possible( we have that now already), but changing the whole thing just doesn’t make sense…

This wouldn’t be like changing a theme or swapping out an app. It would be rewriting the whole desktop and apps, largely from scratch.

Correct, as @elcste said, MATE is intrinsically tied to GTK+, X11, and even GNOME (we still backport code from GNOME on a very regular basis) - changing to QT would effectively be writing a new DE from scratch.
