Does Ubuntu mate support VIA unichrome (only 2d)
You can still install the xserver driver.
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/bionic/+package/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome
You may have to install it manually though -
sudo apt install xserver-xorg-video-openchromedjb
