Mate Menu not appearing after click, applications.list still there

Hi. I've had this issue for awhile now, but that was after first going back to 20.04 even though I had 24.04 (a quick upgrade from Jammy) because I wanted Cairo Dock to work again. This post concerns Mate Menu not appearing when I click on it--just stating the start of the trouble. I have checked the mate-menu file and the applications.list is there and is correct in the info it contains.

location:/usr/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop
location:/usr/share/applications/thunderbird.desktop
location:/home/anthony/.local/share/applications/shotwell.desktop
location:/usr/share/applications/org.keepassxc.KeePassXC.desktop
location:/home/anthony/.local/share/applications/mate-tweak.desktop
location:/var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/ubuntu-mate-welcome_software-boutique.desktop
location:/usr/share/applications/org.gnome.Software.desktop
location:/usr/share/applications/update-manager.desktop
location:/home/anthony/.local/share/applications/steam.desktop
location:/home/anthony/.local/share/applications/spotify.desktop
location:/home/anthony/.local/share/applications/rhythmbox.desktop

I tried installing the Advanced Mate Menu (aka Mate Menu) by terminal since it was removed from Jammy. Here is the terminal output with the command run again:

anthony@anthony-OptiPlex-9010:~$ sudo apt install mate-menu [sudo] password for anthony: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Reading state information... Done mate-menu is already the newest version (22.04.2-0ubuntu1). I was wondering what to do about this because the Advanced Mate Menu is awesome to me, having learned to modify the file applications.list in the folder mate-menu to get everything as I want. Thanks.

If Mate Menu has been installed all you should need to do is right click on a panel >Add to Panel and Advanced Mate Menu should be at the top of the list.

You can simply autoremove the unneeded packages.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. The problem is more complex than that, unfortunately. I click and add the Advanced Menu, but when I click the button, the Advanced Menu does not appear; however, the applications.list is still there, as is the folder mate-menu in .config.
