Mate-panel 126.3: NO TRANSPARENT BACKGROUND

Yesterday I upgraded several mate-desktop tools from the PPA "MATE Desktop updated packages" by Pavel (spvkgn/mate-updates) on launchpad.net.

The new version there, v. 1.26.3, is now missing the ability to set a transparent background. The slider in Panel Properties -> Background, under the "Style" setting is locked at 100.0 %.

Pavel, --or whoever -- can this please be fixed, with a fixed-transparency version made available on the PPA?

Or, if there is already a patched version, might someone point me to that.

Meanwhile, since I've never rolled back to a previous version of any mate program, if someone could tell me how to do that, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

Think your issue is with the panel update shown in PPA bottom is my properites box. At first thought maybe panel got locked via dconf but locking mine no longer have option to get to the setting box shown.
UM22.04.2 MATE Panel 126.2 edit corrected version from 126.0 to 126.2
Would seem if that is issue could try downgrade that package.
Checked did not see a bug listed on PPA, maybe file bug report or wait a bit for a possible fix.
Just guessing

I sent a message to the PPA maintainer, hoping for a fix soon.

Has anyone else noticed this?

SOLVED: I solved the problem of no-transparent-background in the mate-panels by opening Mate Tweak -> "Windows" -> "Window manager" and selecting the "Marco (picom: Hybrid)" window manager.

The window manager I was using when I had the problem was "Marco (no compositor)". Both my top and bottom panels were not transparent (and there was no way to adjust transparency in the panel's "Properties" -> "Background" settings).

Also, the desktop widget for the "my-weather-indicator" app (the "allinone" widget) was also not transparent - it had a black background.

Since I first chose the "Marco (picom: Hybrid)" window manager, and since that brought back the transparencies, I didn't bother to see how the other three window managers (selectable in Mate Tweak) work.

Can anyone lay out what the difference is between all of them:

Marco (built-in: Xpresent
Marco (picom: Xrender)
Marco (picom: GLX)

and
Marco (picom: Hybrid) ???

Thank you.
