Not Ubuntu MATE exactly, but…
The Mate on Ubuntu MATE comes from MATE Desktop Environment, whose name comes from a South American beverage. My mother used to drink it several times a day, but the habit didn’t stick with me.
Turns out Metallica’s frontman did pick up the habit from his ex-wife who is Argentinian.
So the guy’s got a lot of money and was thinking, “what can I do with all this dough?” 
And that’s how James Hetfield Yerba Mate Premium came to life. 
This is true. Not made up, no AI. He likes mate so much that he created his own brand. 
And he takes it with him when he’s on tour.
