I've used that site for years as I truly love genealogy and what you find can be interesting but don't let it define you. It is not all only good.
I've connected with distant cousins as far Sweden and Hawaii. We were even lucky enough to have a reunion with the one from Sweden when she visited the US.
That is correct, Jim. Someone had incorrectly submitted information stating that my Mother was deceased, and yet, she is still alive at the age of 96, even if the submitter had previously put in good info about others. Never got an answer about the basis for submitting that bad info.
