I am using a 13" notebook with ubuntu mate 16.04. Works like a charm. The keyboard layout ends to the right with the Enter key. 7-8-9, i-o-p, j-k-l-, m-.-- can be kombined with the FN key to simulate the numeric block.
Yesterday I wanted to use an external keyboard. It also worked fine but now, after I log into my Mate session, the notebook keyboard works, as if the FN key is pressed (so hitting J types a β1β).
Using the external keyboard is fine, but I want my notebook keyboard layout again. This works (login manager and terminal) as long as I donβt log into the graphical session of Mate. Once logged in, it is the external keyboard setup on X and on a termaninal.
Have you checked under System>Preferences>Hardware>Keyboard then the layout tab to see what is set there. Is it set for you laptops keyboard or something else?
It may have been reset to accommodate the external keyboard and need to be returned to original.
It is set for Generic PC Keyboard 104 Keys which I assume is the exteranl keyboard layout. If I only could remember what was set there before I tried thisβ¦
As soon as I log out of my session, everything is back to normal. For testing purposes I just created a new user and logged in. Everything is fine.
So I assume that somewhere in my home directory there is a config file that I need to straighten up
I give up. It is probably faster to backup, create a new profile and restore than to investigate further. I just wish I could have figured it out to understand what has happened. Thank you for your help anyway
