I confess that I never liked either Mint’s update manager nor its appraoch to updates. It was one of the reasons I moved to Ubuntu-MATE.

I seem to have a problem with the 15.10 install.

~$ sudo apt-get install mintupdate synaptic
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package mintupdate

Its in my software sources, but the package does not exist.

Yes is not yet available in 15.10 :frowning:

Why is mint-update better? Please explain.

I’ve never actually missed it.

Because u can choose what updates u want, when so search for the updats,
kernel update section and icon on the penal

The MintUpdate Manager is far superior to what I see in Ubuntu MATE. Also, the signon screen setup and options are superior as well. One has few options and flexibility available with the Ubuntu MATE update manager. Perhaps it should be added to Synaptic.

I think the opposite, I don’t don’t like Mint Updater in Mint, I stop it from starting and I also change the version of Synaptic in Mint by forcing a different version, you can manage updates quite adequately with Synaptic which I prefer!. Mints look and feel is very good, it is the software management I don’t like!.

OpenSuse software management is far worse!.

Just my opinion, each to their own!.

Yes you are right! But!
Synaptic is not for every one! is not for new GNU/Linux users!

I agree with you entirely, as I said, it is just my opinion, we all started out as beginners at one stage!.

I do like Linux Mint, it is a very good OS, I have it installed on my laptop along with my package management modifications and I am very happy with it!.

Personally, I actually prefer the Mint Updater. Especially considering that the default software updater doesn’t even work on my system (Running UM 15.04). It will pop up and ask to update, but when I select a button, it does nothing. So I always end up either using Synaptic, Aptitude or Apt-Get to update.

agree, i like this feature (Kernel Update Section), i hope ubuntu mate can use the same feature for update manager.

In my opinion Mint’s Update Manager is the best update manager I’ve seen
The Type and Level columns are so intuitive and easy to understand that even my computer newbie friends would understand
