Missing anything by installing MATE on xubuntu vs. fresh install?

So I’d rather not install from scratch; I was running xubuntu, and have installed MATE on top of that. Is there anything I should do to get the full Ubuntu MATE experience? I’m somewhat of a Linux newbie, but I’m learning. :smile:

What version of Xubuntu are you running?

Currently at 14.10 utopic.

OK, try this:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-mate-dev/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends ubuntu-mate-desktop

HOWEVER! There is a good chance this will complete bust your XFCE setup, so proceed with caution and a backup :slight_smile:

I’m ready to take the plunge! I’ve got to figure out a few tweaks (I don’t want to waste your time, I’ll post elsewhere), but MATE is pretty awesome. Many thanks! :smile:
