I loaded “Desktop Games” from the Ubuntu Mate (in 16.04.3) Welcome Software Boutique because it had Mahjongg.
When I had Mahjongg in Ubuntu 12.04, it had a dozen tile layouts. This one seems to only have one called “Easy”, otherwise it seems identical.
Where can I get the other layouts?
The referenced website https://wiki.gnome.org/action/show/Attic/Games isn’t much help.
I use
gnome-mahjongg
classic Eastern tile game for GNOME
It has multiple tile layouts.
You can get it from Synaptic Package Manager.
I installed it thus but I think it was the one I already had via "Desktop Games":
$ sudo apt install mahjongg

This what the top of my Mahjongg screen looks like when I run it. How does it compare with yours? I can't see any way of changing the layout.
Click on the yellow icon in upper left.
Then click preferences and layout.
Yes, changing it round with Mate Tweak, lets me access the menu. Thanks.
