Mouse battery indicator - how to disable?

Ubuntu Mate 15.10 is running on an old Latitude 2100 mini laptop and serving primarily as an MP3 player in my workshop. More than a month ago the machine began displaying a notification that the mouse battery was very low - 5% - will soon stop working etc. I have a spare battery next to the PC but the mouse has not yet given up the ghost.

The question is… how can I turn off the notification? I will know when the battery dies and it takes all of 10 seconds to replace it. I have looked under preferences and power management, dconf editor etc. Short of removing the battery notification icon totally, is there any way to delete only the mouse battery messages?

TIA,

Ken

Hi Ken,

Hmm, I can't imagine why this (above) doesn't work; but you can always right click the panel indicator icon, and remove it.

There are an assortment of indicator icons to choose from - right there on the panel - to best suit your needs. All can be added or removed at will.

Ahh, I just noticed the word ‘Mouse;’ give me a second.

This seems to be an, off & on, persistent issue; I hope these two links help! :relaxed:

Thanks mated. I considered “Never display icon” as the nuclear option. I had been keeping an eye on the computer battery status as it is OLD and only has about 1/3 of its original capacity available As it happens, the new computer battery arrived this afternoon and as I was carrying the PC to the house to install and charge then new battery the mouse battery died DEAD. Now both are replaced and once I get some charge in the main battery I will see what happened.

I had seen a number of posts related to the but they seemed to involve false indications of a run down mouse battery. Mine really was run down. I will post a followup once the PC is back online.

Thanks again,

Ken

The PC is up and running again, as is the mouse. I guess it was not a false indication, just an irritating indication which it seems can not be turned off independent of the main battery status icon. Next time the mouse battery runs down in 6 month or a year I will try and remember to turn the whole thing off - or just spend $0.50US and put a new battery in the thing :grinning:

Yep, it is rumored that we receive kickbacks from the battery industry. Glad you could buy those ‘6 months’ of your sanity back!
