How do I clean up multiple entries of Open Up With?
There a 3 Caja entries and other duplicates.
This list is based on the contents of the directory
/usr/share/applications
You will find mutiple caja.desktop
files there
But beware !! Don't delete them just like that,
Each desktop file has a slightly different start for caja
One will start caja without desktop mechanics, another will start caja in a regular way and a third one will start caja with commandline options given by whatever invokes this desktop file.
If you want to delete one or more of these desktop files, make absolutely sure that you know what you're doing and what the consequences are.
This is my question as well. Why does this happen? If each performs a different way the app is launched, how do we know which one to choose from the "Open with" window?
For "open with" it doesn't seem to make any difference. Not in my experience at least.
But the desktopfiles in /usr/share/applications are used for a myriad other things(like buiding the menu and such). It might make a difference there.
I never explored it deeply so I don't know everything connected to it nor the
possible consequences it carries when some of them are removed.
Thunar is what I use as my file manager.
I think something opened Caja. I then started looking around.
You are right. I looked at those desktop files.
Since I use Thunar as my file manager, I do not need to know "what is under the hood"
for Caja.
