How do you update it?

Can’t seem to do it getting errors.

D/l and install teams for linux, I have teams-for-linux_2.0.8_amd64.deb. When you start teams, it will ask for your skype user/pw and will migrate all contacts/chats from skype to teams. You run teams as usual, you need to right click on the icon on the panel to completely quit.

What errors are you getting? OS is um24.04 ?

Just installed it on a VM, um24.04. Open the deb file with GDebi package installer. Then start Teams, it will send a 6-digit code to the email you had with skype, enter it, and Teams starts showing all contacts/chats you have.

Hi, @Lxr :slight_smile:

(Disclaimer: I do NOT work for / at Microsoft or anything like that!)

As @pavlos_kairis has said, Microsoft has discontinued Skype. Specifically, it was discontinued in May of the current year (2025). The following web page, from the Microsoft Support web site, explains this a bit more:

From that web page, the following paragraphs seem to be particularly relevant (they talk about the data migration from Skype to Microsoft Teams, that @pavlos_kairis has mentioned):

“ (…) As of May 5th, 2025, Skype is retired. This change will impact both free and paid Skype users, but not Skype for Business.

Skype users can move to Microsoft Teams Free, which offers many of the same core features and more. Sign in to Microsoft Teams Free on any supported device using your Skype credentials and your contacts and chats will automatically be transferred. You will also receive a notification in the Skype app prompting you to take action to migrate your data. (…)"

The so-called “new Microsoft Teams” - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/new-teams-desktop-admin#new-teams-availability - hasn’t an official Linux desktop version anymore (it only has versions for Windows and Mac). For Linux, you can install an Unofficial desktop client (such as the one that @pavlos_kairis has mentioned) -OR- you can “install” the Official Microsoft Teams PWA (Progressive Web App). The following article from the Microsoft Tech Community web site explains this:

“Installing” the Microsoft Teams PWA (Progressive Web App) is actually relatively simple. You just have to create a text file called msedge-cifhbcnohmdccbgoicgdjpfamggdegmo-Default.desktop in your ~/Desktop folder with the following content:

#!/usr/bin/env xdg-open
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Name=Microsoft Teams
Exec=/opt/microsoft/msedge/microsoft-edge --profile-directory=Default --app-id=cifhbcnohmdccbgoicgdjpfamggdegmo "--app-url=https://teams.microsoft.com/v2/?clientType=pwa"
Icon=msedge-cifhbcnohmdccbgoicgdjpfamggdegmo-Default
StartupWMClass=crx__cifhbcnohmdccbgoicgdjpfamggdegmo

By doing that, you'll get a Microsoft Teams icon in your desktop, that you can use to launch Teams.

I hope this helps :slight_smile:
