For years I was using a Canon lide 35, 32 bit scanner, and used Simple Scan. When I installed UM 16.04 64 bit the lide 35 would not work. I bought a Canon lide 120 - 64 Bit scanner and used Simple Scan. It worked. I then was reading about Xsane, and installed that. The New Canon scanner worked for a while then stopped working.

When I use Simple Scan I get 3 different results.

  1. Sometimes the scanner will actually scan, but the scan is just a black page. I would think it should be all "white"
  2. "Failed to start: Scanner invalid Argument" with Simple Scan
  3. and then I get Simple Scan to start, but it takes about 60 seconds to give me a "black page"
I have opened the lid and saw that the light was on the scanning bar and moving.

Xsane
Click scan -- Scanning for devices... both windows show up.
Click Scan and get "nothing at all happens" when I use Xsane
Then the windows freeze up and I then have to Force Quit.

Canon told me that they don't support Linux so that was that.

Anyone else have this problem?

If you have an answer, please be low tech with the answer.

Thanks to all
